- Find some pottery. Head to an pottery studio in your community. Take a look at the potter's work.
MISSED THE MEETING? Go to a museum that has a pottery exhibit. Or explore pottery art online with a parent. - Get to know clay. Ask the potter about different types of clay.
MISSED THE MEETING? Learn about the different types of clay a potter might use. - Make a simple pot. Create a pinch, coil or slab pot. (if this isn't something the potter can help you do, it can be done with clay from an arts and craft store*.
- Make an art piece. Decorate a tile, make a pinch or slab sculpture, or make beads for jewelry. If this can't be done at the potter's studio, many paint your own pottery stores have a tile that could be painted. Sculpey clay is great for bead making and mini sculptures*.
- Paint and glaze! Add color to your pottery! If this can't be done at the potter's studio, head to your nearest paint your own pottery store. If you do this, I suggest choosing the tile so the girls can finish 3 and 4 at the same time.
Supplies: (if not going on a field trip)
A computer to show scouts types of pottery and do searches
Some type of crafting clay or playdough
*Plain old play dough works for sculptures and pots... they just won't dry in a way you could take them home.

- Make up a mystery game: Say "I'm going on a picnic and I'm bringing ___." Create a rule about what you will bring. For example, you can only bring food. If a girl says she's bringing a cat, tell her she can't bring it. If she says a sandwich, say she can bring that. Let each girl go around the circle and attempt to bring something. Keep going until most of them figure out the secret. Don't forget to occasionally bring the wrong thing yourself to give them a hint. Once most of them figure it out, have them come up with a secret rule and let the leaders try to guess the secret.
- Create a new party game: Play hot potato. Now come up with a new game that can be played with music and the "potato"
