Activities 1. Visit a colonial home or museum. Take the tour to see and hear its history. OR Take a virtual tour of a colonial home on the Internet. 2. Find out what foods colonists ate, how they gathered their food supplies, and how they cooked. Find an early recipe, prepare the recipe with supervision, and then taste it. 3. Find picture of the colonial style of clothes. Compare everyday to party clothes for children to adult. 4. Children back then had a much harder life than children today. Find out what chores were done around the house by the girls. Find out what type of schooling was available. Compare the education of boys to girls. What subjects were taught? How many years did they go to school? 5. Manners and etiquette were much more important. Find out some of the early manners young girls had to learn. Practice these manners during a tea party. 6. There were no cameras during colonial times. A silhouette would show the growth of children or remind them of someone that is no longer living near to them. Make a silhouette of each other. 7. Toys were completely different in colonial days. Toys were often made from supplies found around the house. Make a cornhusk doll. 8. Find out what games were played. Try one. OR Find out what songs the children sang. Sing some. 9. What was the size of the United States during colonial times? Find out where you live today on the map of Colonial America. 10. Read about a famous female person from colonial times.
